Graft

the-graft-project

GRAFT is a Re-use and Recycling Project in Kilmarnock.  The project name is an acronym for Gain Respect and Foster Trust and comes from its roots in addiction recovery.

The project accepts donations from members of the public and businesses which staff and volunteers sort, clean and categorises in their warehouse at 18 Lawson Street.

Some of the donations go on to form Starter Packs for homeless and disadvantaged people in East Ayrshire. The Starter Packs consists of recycled and donated items such as cutlery, crockery and bedding – any items you need when you first move into a property to make it feel more like home.  Funding from Big Lottery Support and Connect Fund means that we are now able to offer these free of charge to East Ayrshire residents, working in partnership with East Ayrshire Housing Options service.

Other donations go into our pre-loved shop which is open to anyone to come in, browse and buy from.  The money raised by these sales goes back into developing the activities of the service, which include the provision of a range of volunteering opportunities, training and paid work.

The Project also provides a range of services including painting and decorating and home and garden maintenance. The ethos of all GRAFT services is to empower people to take ownership of their situations and enable them to make positive and productive changes in their lives, “helping people to help themselves”.
